Treatment Sessions
As a first step, I can arrange a confidential 15-minute telephone conversation with you, to answer any questions that you may have. If you decide you would like to meet the next step will be the initial assessment, which will be a 60 min session. The reason for assessment is to understand your circumstances and problems in more detail and to ascertain the impact they are having on your feelings and your life. We may need to touch on your past history in order to see how it impacts the way you feel today. Assessment also aims to get an idea of how you would like things to be. Most assessments take only one session, occasionally we may need a second session but this will be explained if needed. At the end of assessment, we will summarise together and discuss how CBT could help. You can then decide if you wish to go forward to treatment sessions, which would usually begin on a weekly basis.
Treatment sessions last for 60 minutes each. At the end of each session we agree a between-session task, which is linked to what we have been looking at together; something to try before we meet again. It is important to keep ideas going between sessions, allowing you to test or practise new ideas that we have explored. This is an important part of therapy as it ensures continuity, similar to exercises given by a physiotherapist in between appointments.
An average course of CBT lasts for between 12 and 16 treatment sessions. Therapy would be agreed in blocks of four sessions, with a review of progress at the end of each block of four.
Treatment Fees
All sessions are £65 each for private enquiries and £70 each for insurance work. Fees and can be paid either in advance by BACS or at the end of the session in cash.
